The Bra Reset: Self-Love, Body Changes, and Releasing What No Longer Fits

March 23, 20261 min read

Hooray Kame Caldwell, an undergarment educator and self-love coach, breaks down why bras feel so confusing (and emotional) for so many people. This conversation covers bra sizing basics, sister sizing, the mindset piece behind body shame, and what to do when your body changes from weight loss, weight gain, menopause, or life transitions. It’s part practical, part healing… and honestly, kinda freeing.

  • Most people are “guessing” their bra size. Proper fit is a learned skill, not something you’re born knowing.

  • Bra sizes are information, not identity. A number doesn’t define your worth, it's just data to help you feel supported.

  • Sister sizing matters. A DD isn’t always a DD across brands, fit depends on band + cup + brand sizing system.

  • Weight changes can affect fit fast. Even small changes can shift breast tissue, band fit, or comfort.

  • Get-through bras are a smart move. If you’re actively changing sizes, buy 2–3 supportive “for now” bras instead of rebuilding your whole collection immediately.

  • Holding onto old bras can keep you stuck (emotionally + practically). Releasing what no longer fits can create space, literally and mentally, for what’s next.

  • You can donate or recycle bras. There are orgs that accept gently used bras, and textile recyclers for worn-out ones.

Try this today (topic-resonant)

The “Bra Drawer Reset” (15 minutes):

  1. Pick 3 bras you wear most often.

  2. Do a quick check:

    • Band rides up? Straps digging? Underwire poking? Cups gaping/spilling?

  3. Write one line: “This bra makes me feel ___.” (supported, annoyed, confident, etc.)

  4. Choose one action:

    • Keep (fits + feels good)

    • “Get-through” (works for now)

    • Release (doesn’t fit / causes discomfort)

  5. Create space: put “Release” bras in a bag to donate or recycle.

  6. Close with one sentence (tiny but powerful):

    • “My body deserves comfort today.”
